Keeping your energy level in check this summer

Updated: Oct 26, 2022

Summer started and the heat has hit us. Our bodies need their time to adjust to the high temperatures whilst producing more sweat to cool down. Even our metabolic rate slows down in summer leaving us feeling sluggish and listless. Too much sun exposure especially during peak hours also contributes to low energy as it causes dehydration.

How do we keep our energy up naturally?

Drink plenty of water, a lack of it will result in dehydration. In summer we lose more fluids, meaning we also lose electrolytes - these are important minerals that help our body maintain optimal function.

If you tend to forget to drink, download an App on your phone that calculates how much water your body needs, and it will remind you throughout the day to drink water. Add slices of lemon, cucumber and fresh mint leaves to your water.

Increase your electrolyte intake by including these foods to your diet - kale, spinach, watermelon, lemons, almonds, bananas and tofu. Coconut water is also a good additional to your water intake.

Avoid refined carbohydrates, added sugars and sugary drinks. Eat more salads and summer fruits. Use chick peas, avocados, almonds and pumpkin seeds for protein.

Give your body an extra boost with the right supplements. Here are my go-to summer supplements:

BetterYou Magnesium Oil Sprays – Magnesium is an essential mineral and electrolyte. Massage it into your skin, ideally after a shower.

BetterYou B-complete Oral Spray - a great-tasting, expertly formulated blend of all 8 B vitamins, including vitamin B12 to support natural energy metabolism.

BetterYou Iron 10 Oral Spray – Contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Formulated to be gentle on the digestive tract.

If you are taking medication or undergoing any medical treatment, consult a health care professional before adding any supplements to your diet.
